守余
Shǒu Yú
Guard the Reserve
This is our 家道 — a family principle meant to guide you through life. Not a rule to memorise, but a way of deciding: in calm and in trouble, in what you take on and what you let go. At its heart is one discipline — never use everything up. In every choice, keep something 余 — in reserve.
守余之道,在于不急、不困、不败、不尽。
shǒu yú zhī dào, zài yú bù jí, bù kùn, bù bài, bù jìn
The way of guarding the reserve lies in not rushing, not being trapped, not losing, and not exhausting.
The Four Principles
Do not rush
Panic and urgency should never drive a decision. Calm creates space, and space is reserve.
Do not become trapped
Stay clear. Always keep a way forward — never let a situation close every door but one.
Ensure you do not lose
It is not about winning. It is about never placing yourself where you can be forced into losing — keep dignity and options intact, even in withdrawal.
Never go all in
In everything you do, hold something back. Enjoy without exhausting. Always keep a reserve.
The Inner Question
若事变于明日,我尚有余否?
If everything changed tomorrow, would I still have reserve?
This was never about holding back from life.
It is to make sure you are all protected.
